My birthplace was a small Southern Illinois town in the Great Midwest in the late 1940s. At a time when there were no computers and kids like me, I played outside most of the time. We had to use our imaginations to play games and explore the woods. A cardboard box was our best toy. We were a poor blue-collar family that had to think less about money and more about having fun. I had ten brothers and sisters, so we were taught to share.
